The art of the American West is as diverse as its topography and the people who live here. Covering a large section of the country, the area west of the Mississippi is known for its great open spaces, its rugged mountain ranges, and everything from its coastal beaches to its delicate deserts. The art of the West is defined by subject matter and found in countless styles, from traditional realism to abstraction.
The West Select: A Western Art Invitational Sale and Exhibition is an annual celebration at Phoenix Art Museum that brings together collectors, fans, and leading artists of the American West. This year's 37 artists are highly accomplished and decorated artists from across the nation, into Canada and even England. The over 100 new works of art included will be in a variety of media including paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs that feature landscapes, still-lifes, historical and contemporary genre scenes of cowboys, settlers, American Indians, wildlife and the modern, or “New West.”. The exhibition offers diverse representations of the American West that all tell the story of this remarkable region.
