Guided Tours

To enhance your museum experience, we offer several guided tours for adults and students. Museum tours are provided by a Docent, who is trained to speak knowledgeably and engage people in conversations about objects in the Museum’s collection.

Group Tours

Bring the Museum to You

The Museum Docents' Speakers Bureau will bring one-hour slide presentations to your adult community group or organization meeting on requested topics. You must book your presentation at least five weeks in advance. To schedule a presentation, call (602) 307-2090 or send e-mail to

School Tours

Reserve a date for your students to experience original art objects, ask questions, discover new ideas, and build knowledge of their community. Tours are aligned with Arizona Department of Education Standards to make learning across the curriculum come alive! Most tours are based on the Museum’s extensive collection. Educators may also schedule tours of temporary exhibitions; click here to view upcoming exhibition schedule.

Tours require five weeks advance notice and are subject to the relevant admission charges.

  • $4 per student
  • 1 teacher and 2 chaperones per 30 students are free
  • Additional adults (unless required by your situation) pay admission fee of $4
  • Admission subsidies are available on a limited basis for schools with 50% or more Title I populations
  • Bus subsidies are available dependent upon need and available funding

Docent Led Tours

Tours are led by Docents (volunteer teachers) trained to speak knowledgeably and engage students in conversations about objects in the Museum’s collection. Classes will be divided into groups of 12-15. Required chaperone to student ratio is 1:10 for grades K-3, 1:15 for grades 4-12.

Docent-guided tours are available Tuesday – Thursday beginning at 10am.
Tuesday tours may visit the following galleries only: Art of Asia, European Art, American Art, Spanish Colonial Art, Art of Philip C. Curtis, Steele Gallery.

Self-Guided Visits

Phoenix Art Museum welcomes educators to self-guide groups in ways that benefit their students while accommodating the presence of guided tours and the general public.

Self-guided tours must be booked in advance, and are available
