Outside the Box, Inside the Screen: Student Short Films

Join us for a selection of short films created by teenage filmmakers in response to the upcoming exhibition, To Be Thirteen: Photographs and Video by Betsy Schneider. As the portraits and video of 250 13-year-olds who participated in Schneider’s project demonstrate, there is a vast range of experiences that make up what it means to be 13 (or any age). Young filmmakers explore themes of time, memory, and transition in a variety of genres and cinematic effects.   Are you a student filmmaker interested in submitting a film? Through the generosity of Discount Tire, the Museum offers free general admission and discounted special exhibition admission on the second weekend of each month, with exciting activities, scavenger hunts, live performances, story time, free tours, and more. Free event open to teens 13-18! Develop your observational drawing skills this summer through this series of in-gallery drawing sessions led by Phoenix-based artists. Drawing inspiration from art throughout the museum, we’ll explore mark-making, composition, and taking sketches off the page. Materials aprovided, but you're welcome to bring your own sketchbook. All skill levels welcome (even if that means stick figures!).
