By Teens: Sustainability on the runway March 1 | 7 – 9 pm Open to high school and college students RSVP Workshops 7 – 8:30 PM Walk the runway at 8:30 PM   Show off the ways you customize, upcycle, and thrift to create fashion that’s uniquely yours. Meet other fab creators, and learn new ways to inventively reuse materials to make sustainable wear, drawing on designs in ultracontemporary that make use of fabric scraps, as well as work by other artists in the collection who use found or repurposed materials.    This event is divided into two components: a workshop and a fashion show. Circles of Support donors are invited to enjoy refreshments, live music, and remarks by Gilbert Vicario, The Selig Family Chief Curator, followed by an exclusive preview of Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist.   Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist is the first survey on the obscure American painter in more than 24 years. She painted conventional desert landscapes to make a living, but it was her abstract studies of earth and light, biomorphic compositions of delicate veils, shimmering stars, and atmospheric horizon lines, that distinguished her work. International Women's Day

International Women’s Day at Phoenix Art Museum   On March 8th, for International Women’s Day, Phoenix Art Museum will focus on women artists in The Museum’s collection, host a film screening, and feature a talk from Mexican born visual artist, known for her fusion of fashion and art, Giovana Aviles.    Learn about the women who changed the art world forever and listen to local distinguished women in the arts help you brush up on your history as they talk about the art and artists that inspire them, such as Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo, the Conceptual art of Cornelia Parker, and Mickalene Thomas’ sequined paintings.
