2010-2011 BOARD OF TRUSTEES SLATE OF CANDIDATES

Peter Banko
Mr. Banko is a retired managing director and regional manager of Bank of America. A career internationalist, he has managed banking operations in eleven foreign assignments in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He was the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, Taiwan and has also served on the International Board of Advisors for the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Mr. Banko received an A.A. from Phoenix College, a B.S. from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and graduate degrees from both the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management and Arizona State University. He has served two terms as president of the Asian Arts Council and as a guest curator of Asian art at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Drew Brown
Mr. Brown is Chairman of DMB, a real estate development and investment firm doing business in Arizona and other western states. Prior to co-founding DMB in 1984, Mr. Brown was a partner and director in the Phoenix law firm of Fennimore Craig, where he specialized in real estate and commercial lending matters. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and received his juris doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Mr. Brown has been active in a number of professional, civic and community organizations. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Phoenix Art Museum, Greater Phoenix Leadership, The Flinn Foundation, Arizona Campaign for Arts & Culture, and is a member of Notre Dame Law School Advisory Council and Urban Land Institute. He recently fulfilled his term as a board member of Scottsdale Healthcare and Maricopa Partnership for Arts & Culture. Drew and his wife, Laurie, are past Co-Chairs of the Tocqueville Society of The Valley of the Sun United Way.

Joan Cremin
Mrs. Cremin was born and raised in New York City and currently divides her time between Seattle and Phoenix with her husband Bob, former CEO and current Chairman of the Board for Esterline Technologies. She holds a Ph.D. in French literature from the University of Washington and has taught language and literature at colleges in the Seattle area and North Carolina. Mrs. Cremin has been a member of the Seattle Repertory Theatre Board since 2002, was Chair of the French Advisory Board at the University of Washington and is a lifetime Fellow of the Morgan Library in New York.

A.J. Dickey
Ms. Dickey is a past Trustee of the Phoenix Art Museum and past president of the Western Art Associates. Presently she also serves as a board trustee of the Heard Museum. Ms. Dickey attended Wellesley College and Southern Methodist University and received her bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Interdepartmental Studies of Latin America. Since moving to Phoenix in 1966 she has been involved in numerous charities and is an enthusiastic supporter of the cultural arts of the area.

Richard Goldsmith
Mr. Goldsmith was reelected to the Board in 2004 after previously serving from 1997 to 2003. He co-chairs the Circles Advisory Committee and is a member of the Operations Committee. Mr. Goldsmith was in the Docent class of 1999. He is a board member of Contemporary Forum and a member of Friends of European Art. He is a past member and chairman of the Phoenix Office of Arts and Cultural, and member of the ASU Nelson Art Museum Advisory Board. Mr. Goldsmith is a partner in the business section of the Lewis and Roca Law firm, specializing in commercial contracts and alternative dispute resolution. He received his law degree from the University of Arizona in 1973.

Paul Groves
Mr. Groves is Managing Director for JPMorgan Private Bank. Based in Scottsdale, Mr. Groves provides strategic advice and consultation to high net worth individuals and families, coordinating access to internal specialists and external client advisors. He has more than 20 years of commercial and corporate banking experience in the Phoenix metropolitan area with the predecessor firms of JPMorgan where his primary responsibilities included developing and managing financial relationships with small-to-medium-sized businesses. Mr. Groves graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a concentration in Finance and Accounting.

Ellen Katz
Mrs. Katz has served as a trustee since 2003, and from 2007-Sept. 2010 has served as Chairman of the Board. Previous to that she served two years as vice chairman and was the founder of the pARTy in 2005. Mrs. Katz spends half of the year in New York City where she serves on the Board of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and is a Trustee of Northwestern University.

Judy Linhart
Judy Linhart is a graduate of the University of Manitoba School of Architecture with the degree Bachelor of Interior Design Since moving to Phoenix in 1984, she has taken studio classes in woodworking and in the MFA program at ASU. She is a maker of studio furniture. She has served on the Board and the Executive Committee of Contemporary Forum, at the Museum; on the Board of the Scottsdale Center for the Arts; and the Board of Friends of Art at ASU. She is a Past President of The Women's Board of the Arizona Kidney Foundation and was Chairman of The Authors Lunch. She has served on the Board of the Jewish Foundation of Phoenix and the Jewish Federation of Phoenix. Judy and her husband, Sam, are collectors of contemporary craft and are committed supporters of the visual arts.

Steve “Mac” MacLellan
Steve MacLellan is Chairman and CEO for Northern Trusts’ personal financial services business in the Southwest region. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Mr. MacLellan was the National Director of Wealth Advisory Services in Chicago and also served as Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Private Client Services and Executive Vice President and Regional Director of Smith Barney. Mr. MacLellan is a graduate of Arizona State University with interests in contemporary art.

Jim Patterson
Mr. Patterson is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UMB Bank Arizona. He and his family have made Arizona their home since 1994, having moved to Phoenix from the San Francisco area. Mr. Patterson has spent his 35 year career in banking; having last served as the regional executive for wealth management businesses for M&I Bank Arizona. He received a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Chapman University. He spent his much of his childhood overseas and is a graduate of the American School in Japan. He is a dedicated supporter of the arts.

Steve Rineberg
Mr. Rineberg has been a member of the Museum’s Board since 1997 and served as its President from 2001 to 2003. He currently is Chairman of the Collections Committee, serves on the Nominating Committee and Operations Committee. Mr. Rineberg has interests in contemporary, modern and early Chinese art, and is a member of Contemporary Forum and the Asian Arts Council. He is retired.

John Simon
Dr. Simon is president of SimonMed Imaging, Inc. He has spent his career in Phoenix in the practice of interventional and general radiology and in medical administration. Dr. Simon was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He received a B.A. Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Harvard University, and a M.D. from the University of Chicago. He completed graduate studies and was on faculty at the University of Michigan. Dr. Simon and his wife, Dr. Armity Simon, are avid travelers and eclectic collectors of art.

Gary Tooker
Mr. Tooker previously served on the Phoenix Art Museum Board of Trustees from 2000-2006. He spent his career at Motorola, rising to CEO and retiring as Chairman of the Board in 1999. He presently is a member of the Board of Directors of Avnet Inc. and Eaton Corporation. He also is a member of the ASU Foundation Board of Trustees, the ASU Research Park Board of Directors, and the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale Leadership Council. Mr. Tooker graduated from ASU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He received the ASU Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1983, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from ASU in 1996, and was the recipient of the ASU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Engineering Excellence Award in 1999. He and his wife, Diane, are active in a number of philanthropic organizations in the Valley.

Steve Wheeler
Mr. Wheeler has served as a Trustee of Museum’s Board since 2004 and has been the Board’s Vice Chairman for the past five years. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Operations Committee. Mr. Wheeler is Executive Vice President of Customer Service and Regulation for Arizona Public Service Company. He is responsible for all transmission and distribution activities, customer service, pricing and state and federal regulatory matters for APS. He is a former partner of the law firm of Snell & Wilmer, where he was Chairman of its Energy, Natural Resources and Environmental Law practice group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Mr. Wheeler is Chairman of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, a Director and Past Chairman of the Valley of the Sun United Way, a Director and Vice Chair of the Flinn Foundation, and a Director of Scottsdale Healthcare Corporation. He was previously Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl, President of the Arizona Theatre Company, Chairman of the Commission on the Arizona Environment, and Chairman of the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization. Through appointment, he has also been involved in state initiatives on childhood education, transportation, and the environment. Mr. Wheeler is an honors graduate of Princeton University and Cornell Law School.

Brad Wilde
Mr. Wilde has served on the Museum’s Board of Trustees since 2005 and as Chairman of the Building and Grounds committee. Mr. Wilde is CEO of Miravista Holdings, a real estate firm which specializes in brownfield remediation and urban development. He is a board member of Valley Forward Association and has been a member of the Men’s Art Council at the Phoenix Art Museum for nearly 20 years. Mr. Wilde is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in political science.
