Jomon Pottery: Excavating the Past

Nov 7, 2018, 12pm
Jomon vessels date to Japan’s earliest Neolithic cultures. Although excavations have uncovered artifacts from numerous archaeological sites, scholars know little about this proto-literate culture. Utilizing the Jomon vessel from Phoenix Art Museum's collection, along with pottery from other early Asian civilizations, join Carolyn Greene, the Museum's curatorial associate of Asian art, for an exploration of early cultures, rituals, and daily life.  Included with general admission. RSVP coming soon to tickets.phxart.org. Image credit: Hiroyuki Wakamoto, Jomon Bowl #1, wood-fired ceramic. Gift of Elaine and Sidney Cohen.
