Kōgyo: Master Printmaker of Noh Theater

Asian Gallery

Learn about Japanese Noh theater through woodblock prints. Collector Sherri Beadles discusses Japanese artist Kōgyo, a Noh theater enthusiast and printmaker. Kōgyo masterfully captured the quintessential moments of Noh drama in his prints in the 19th century, at a time when this form of theater faced extinction. Held in conjunction with the exhibition Quiet Rage, Gentle Wall: Prints & Masks of Japanese Noh Theatre, funded by the Japan Foundation.
