How to Look at Cinema

Further explore the themes of Lifelike in this tour through the history and aesthetics of cinema. Screening excerpts from classic, contemporary, and experimental films, Film Program Coordinator Perry Allen guides a discussion of how to look at film as its own art form. Get a deeper look into the principles film, from cinematography and montage to mise-en-scene and special effects. Help train your cinematic eye, then be sure to apply these new skills to our upcoming screening of Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2, projected on 35mm. Films featured in the talk will include: Citizen Kane, Un Chien Andelou, Breathless, Jaws, Stanger than Paradise, Nashville, and more!
