Make It!: Dreamscapes

October's Make It! activity is called Dreamscapes. Explore abstraction, color, and collage with Phoenix-based teaching artist Julie Peters. Gather inspiration from Alexander Calder’s lithographs in the exhibition, AOutburst of Color. Consider shape and rhythm as you create your own whimsical dreamscape.

About the Teaching Artist

Julie Peters has been exploring various artmaking techniques and materials since she was a student at Camelback High School in the 1970s. Over the years she has especially been drawn to collage that utilized papers of different types and styles. When planning for the upcoming Make It! session, the idea of working with cut papers in the graphic style of Alexander Calder held a great appeal. Julie has always found it exciting to see what a creative person can do with simple papers. As an art teacher at North High School, working with teenagers has become an important part of Julie’s life. Her students have incorporated simple and complex papers into both 2-D and 3-D artworks.
