Make It!

Make It! is a monthly drop-in, family-friendly, hands on art-making activity for all. Each month features a different activity inspired by objects in the Museum’s collection or current exhibitions. Each month also features collaborations with different local artists to create activities that introduce participants to new materials, perspectives and ways of connecting. Make It! is free and is part of #PhxArtFamily and #FreeAfterThree (each Wednesday, general admission is free from 3pm-9pm).

Samurai Self-Portraits: Create your own samurai helmet (kabuto) and mask (mempo) with multimedia artist Hannah Irene Walsh.  Draw inspiration from the exhibition Samurai: Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection and explore Samurai resources from the Lemon Art Research Library, the largest specialized fine arts library in the region.

About the ArtistHannah Irene Walsh is a Phoenix native and a current Master of Fine Arts candidate at Arizona State University. She is a multimedia artist, whose sculptural work includes masks and costumes that embody monstrous and mythical personas. She admires the craftsmanship and visual impact of samurai regalia, and hopes to connect Make It! participants with the exhibition and their own creative alter-egos.
