AAC First Wednesdays | Reverence and Praise: Ancestor Portraits in the Chinese Painting Tradition

Reverence and Praise: Ancestor Portraits in the Chinese Painting Tradition
An Asian Arts Council First Wednesday Gallery Talk

Noon | Art of Asia Galleries
1 pm | Lunch at Palette

Chinese ancestor portraits were once collected by Westerners as mere decoration. In recent years, however, they have begun to receive serious attention as works of art and as devotional paintings. Dr. Claudia Brown, professor of art history Arizona State University and former Museum curator will explore the current scholarship on the subject, discussing featured works from the Museum's collections.

Admission is included with Museum general admission. A $20, no-host luncheon will held in the Museum restaurant, Palette, following the talk.

First Wednesday Gallery Talks are sponsored by Asian Arts Council.
