Tour Description
While providing an overview of the museum, docents discuss with students the unique qualities of individual art works in the museum’s collection and how they might be considered “masterpieces”.
Goals
- To discover the qualities which make a work of art unique and of particular significance to the Phoenix Art Museum
- To explore the styles and themes in art from various cultures and eras of history
- To introduce the variety of galleries and collections in the museum
Rationale
Museums collect and exhibit works that are valued by society. Art works may be valued because of the artist’s reputation, as examples of a particular artistic style or movement in art history, as historical documents of places and times. Students are challenged as they analyze the art of the “masters”.
