Exhibition Details

Location: Orientation Gallery
Dates: March 17, 2017
to September 3, 2017

Good Sport pays homage to the celebrated rites and rituals of athletic pursuits and their depiction in works of art throughout the ages. The exhibition draws upon works from the Museum’s collection, highlighting treasures by artists such as Alexander Calder, George Wesley Bellows, and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Pastimes from tennis and baseball to ballet and bullfighting are depicted in 19th- and 20th-century images spanning four of the Museum’s collecting areas: American, Contemporary, European, and Asian art.

This exhibition is held conjunction with the fourth-annual Luncheon of Champions on March 24, featuring a candid conversation between legendary sports-journalist Mike Wilbon, host of ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption, and Theo Epstein, president of baseball operations for the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. Luncheon of Champions raises funds in support of exhibitions and education. For more details about the Luncheon, please click here
